Abstract (also reported in Table 3, row 'Samples from tubewell')
Detectable Escherichia coli prevalence in tubewell samples was lower for intervention participants’ neighbors than control participants’ (prevalence ratio = 0.83; 95% confidence interval: 0.73, 0.95).
Contexto
What changed: Target compounds received latrine upgrades, chlorine tablets, safe storage containers, handwashing stations, and hygiene promotion. Comparison: Non-enrolled neighbors living near intervention compounds compared to neighbors near control compounds. Limits: Cluster-level intervention coverage was low (around 10%), and groundwater quality improvements did not prevent stored water contamination or child diarrhea.
